How to get good
I was just reading an interview with some ad guru and he said this:I think it's very important not to live in the world of advertising. I actually tell all my creatives, "Oh please don't read those books on advertising, they're a complete waste of time. Read other books. Read about Hollywood, read about screenwriting, go to an art gallery, go see paintings, go see art installations, go see what other creative people are doing and how they're engaging the world!"
Reminded me of one time when there was some guy practicing drums in the room next to us. Drummer Rich told me what his advice would be to anyone who wants to get good at drums...something like this: "Don't fucking practice your one handed rolls. Go smoke a joint, read some Aldous Huxley, and listen to Ringo." I always liked that. ; )
